Mike Scanlan
Invite Tappy and Mike’s family to the tee.
As many of you know, we lost Mike a few days ago. Mike would want this to be a celebration, and we will do the best we can to honor Mike at a place he held so dear to his heart.
When we started the new member guest and rebranded it as “The Gunslinger”, a new tradition we started was The First Tee Shot to open the tournament. This new tradition was meant to honor the men who have given so much to the club and the Lone Tree Men’s Golf Club.
Last year was the first tournament of the new member/guest, named The Gunslinger!
Mike and his partner Wylie were the honorary first tee shot participants. Mike and Wylie were both original members of the Lone Tree Country Club. Mike has been a member ever since. One of the items Mike was so touched by was the gunslinger flags that players signed and then were presented to Mike. It meant the world to him !!!
We interviewed Mike a couple of weeks ago in preparation for today. That evening, Mike had an incident at home that he was unable to recover from.
During that interview, Mike was pretty sure he would not be able to hit the first shot but very much wanted to participate in the ceremony again.

The photo you see here today is Mike hitting the first inaugural tee shot from last year!!!
(pause)
Mike, we know you are here with us today in spirit and we are and will always be honored to have you with us forever!!!!!
A short reading we would like to share:
People come into our life disguised as angels, and sometimes angels come into our life disguised as people. It is possible to see God anywhere. All it takes are open eyes and ears and the willingness to see miracles. They are everywhere. God is as available as we are. Having friends that inspire us to rise to higher and greater levels is an awesome gift. Surround yourself with people that inspire you to do better and inspire your friends as well. It is a profound truth that the people we spend time with shape the path that we travel.
Mike was one of those people!
We could talk for hours about the impact Mike has had here at Lone Tree. Everyone that knew him had a friend!
Mike, you will be missed on the green fairways of Lone Tree but you will always have a place at the Men’s Club table!
God grant me the serenity to accept the shots I miss,
the courage to try, try again,
and the wisdom not to throw my clubs in the lake.
May God bless you. May God bless Tappy and your family. You sir, will live on forever here at Lone Tree and in our memories.
A moment of silence please: ……now driving……Mr Mike Scanlan
